This notice explains how Skill Struck, Inc. ("Skill Struck," "we") collects, uses and shares information when a parent or legal guardian ("you") signs up their family for Rover at rover.skillstruck.com. It adds to our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. Our COPPA Policy covers accounts that schools create. Rover family accounts are created by parents instead, so where this notice and those policies differ, this notice applies to Rover family accounts.
Children's Privacy in Rover
Who creates a Rover account?
A parent or legal guardian buys a Rover plan, which creates a grown-up account in the parent's name, using the email address given at checkout. The parent then adds each child from Mission Control. Children cannot create Rover accounts or buy plans.
Do you obtain parental consent before collecting information from a child?
Yes. At checkout, before any information about a child is collected, you check a box confirming that you are the parent or legal guardian of the children you will add to Rover, and that you consent to Skill Struck collecting and using their information as described in this notice. Checkout requires a credit or debit card through our payment processor, Stripe, which helps confirm that consent comes from an adult. We keep a record of when you gave consent. You can review your child's information or withdraw consent at any time (see "What are the choices of a parent or guardian?" below).
What information do you collect from parents?
Your name and email address, a password and a grown-up PIN (both stored only in encrypted form), your plan and billing status, and anything you send to our support team. Payments are handled by Stripe. We do not see or store your full card number.
What information do you collect about children?
Information you enter when you add a child: their first name, grade, optional interests, an avatar and color, and the learning pathway you choose. Each child's account also carries your family's last name. If you turn on "Own login" for a child, we create a username and password for them so they can sign in on other devices.
Information created as your child uses Rover: the lessons and steps they complete, their answers and quiz scores, the code they write, the stars they earn and the time they spend learning. Like most websites, our servers also record technical information such as IP address, browser type and the date and time of each visit, which we use to keep Rover working and secure.
Rover never asks a child for an email address, phone number, photo or location.
How do you use children's information?
Only to provide Rover to your family: to show your child their lessons and progress, to show you their progress in Mission Control, to check their work, to keep Rover secure and working, and to improve our lessons. We do not show ads in Rover, we do not sell children's information, and we do not use it to build profiles for advertising.
Is a child's information required to use Rover?
Only a first name and grade are needed to add a child, so that Rover can keep each child's progress separate and suggest pathways for their grade. Interests, avatars and "Own login" are optional.
Is children's information shared with third parties?
We do not share children's personal information with unrelated third parties. We use service providers that process information for us under contract, only to run Rover: Amazon Web Services and Supabase (hosting and data storage), Cloudflare (website delivery and security), Google Workspace (email to parents), Sentry (error reports, which identify an account only by a number) and Stripe (payments, which involve only the parent). Some Rover lessons open learning activities from other Skill Struck apps, such as games, Blocks Pro and micro:bit activities. Those apps may use analytics tools that record how the activity is used.
What are AI hints?
AI hints are off for every child unless you turn them on in Mission Control. When they are on, Rover sends the child's code and the coding task to our AI provider to generate a hint. Hints never include the child's name. You can turn them off at any time.
What are the choices of a parent or guardian?
You can review and change your children's names, grades, interests and logins in Mission Control at any time. Removing a child in Mission Control stops their access to Rover.
You can also ask us to send you a copy of the information we hold about your children, to correct it, or to delete it, and you can withdraw your consent to further collection at any time. Withdrawing consent means we stop collecting information from that child and delete what we hold, and the child can no longer use Rover. Email privacy@skillstruck.com from the email address on your Rover account so that we can confirm the request comes from you. We respond within 30 days and confirm by email when the information has been deleted.
How long do you keep children's information?
We keep it while your family has a Rover account, including after a plan ends, so that your children can pick up where they left off if you restart Rover. We delete it when you ask us to.
Changes to this notice
If we make a material change to how we collect, use or share children's information, we will email the parent on the account and ask for consent again where the law requires it.
